Hello! I am new to this forum. i have a 66 mustang with an i6. i am contemplating a swap to a v8 but something about the six is cool!
My question is, does anyone have an argument for staying with the six and getting some good performance, power etc... i don't want a racer but want some power...

What part of the world you in? Maybe there is a member close to you that has a non stock motor or even a properly working one to compare to yours and give you some ideas.

ya i wouldnt set my expectations too high unless i had deep pockets but with a bigger carb, better exhaust and some head work you can have a pretty fun car.

Wow....I hope you aren't trying to make this decision overnite. I am in the processing of rebuilding an engine. It is costly. More so than I would have spent on a V8 crate engine. (or close)

So why did I stay with the 6....well. Its to be different. I have a coupe, not a fastback or ragtop. So no one really thinks my coupe is way out special when it is sitting next to a FB or RT....unless..my 6 sounds good, looks good and can run off the line with those other guys..

So being different is part of the plan. Another part, is all the research, time, effort, mistakes, and BS that I have put in would be worthless if a V8 goes in.

Lastly, where can you go on a forum and find friends who really care about your engine, what you do, how you do it and have the know-how and parts (mike!!!) to back it up.

Stick around....look around and search some. Make comparisons...

thanks for all the welcome! i live in nashville, TN. right now i am in the middle of body work so I have plenty of timme to decide on a direction for the engine. I am on the fence. I look forward to learning more about the i6 world!

There is one guy on here that has one of our I 6's pulling 400+hp and running 10. in the 1/4. I believe its turbo'ed.

That is it exactly. I bought my I6 on purpose, I passed on a better deal on a 67 302V8 because I was buying a daily driver and wanted to get milage that I could wrench on. And every time I do wrench on her I can feel the improvements. I am slowly building the car as I drive it so the "high Cost" of building a 6 are not hitting me all at once (that aluminum head is REALLY tempting though).

The "high" cost is a relative term. Each item is exclusive to the engine and they dont make em for 6's like they do for 8's. Time is also on the cost list.

Price for all the parts for your new engine. $3700. Price for 30hrs of weekend time with your friends, a few cases of Bud and way too much BS $1000

The feel of running down the road with a hi-po six and getting looks from those who think its a 351.......Priceless!

I like my 6 because it's dead reliable, durable, economical, and DIFFERENT. I've watched people walk right by Shelby Mustangs to look at my little old 6-cylinder Ranchero, and I can have just as much fun putt-putting around in it as I can blasting around in a speed machine (I have one of those, too).

No matter what you do to it, there will always be somebody else with more power, better paint, louder stereo, etc - so that's a losing game. Decide what YOU want, then go for it.

If you keep the 6 (and I hope you do), this is THE place for info. Welcome!

Besides, it's a well known fact that guys who drive 6 cyl mustangs and falcons are under-compensating.
