Heye everyone,
Quick question, after I got my $40 dollar clifford header cleaned up today I went to go put it in and kinda got stuck. I attacked it from 5000 different angles and tore the whole passenger side apart, what I wou;ld like to know is what is the best and easiest away to go about putting this in?
Thanks

Generally, the "safest" install is with either the motor out, or the head off. You may have some luck unbolting both front mounts and jacking the motor up and off to one side. The early engine bays are much narrower (like a falcon!) and this is the main problem.

Spare a thought for Australians, as we need to clear the steering box too!

I dunno. I just stuck them in and they bolted right up. It was a Clifford single out.

First thing to do is jack up the car as high as you can on all four corners with secure jack stands. Remove the starter, may have to move the transmission cooler lines if you have an automatic, and unbolt the idler arm from the frame and swing it out of the way. At this point, the header should just slip in from underneath. It helps to have another person helping from the top side. Before bolting the header on make sure you can get the starter back in location. That should do it.

Not sure what header I got but I picked one up for $50.oo duel out... 3 into 2.
removed starter, jacked it up some and it went in from the top..... only the header was too long must have been for a truck or something... but it went in took it to the muffler shop and they had to refab the colectors to curve at the fire wall...

When you pay $275-$350 for a header they just jump right onto the engine as soon as you open the box. $40 headers require training. Or didn't they come with instructions. Maybe thats why they were $40

You got something there. But even when they still had real speed shops, the magazines all recommended that you either try them for fit first or get a return guarantee because sometimes they didn't fit, even if the list showed they did.

Well i got in it yesterday, didnt have to take anything else off just the starter. Just took a step back and took a deep breath and low and behold in it went. I think I was just frustrated and had put to much thought into it that first day.
thanks for all the inputs.

Good for you, I was being fecitious previously. I guess I'm jealous because I can't find a cheap used header. When you want a real header challenge try a 68 Fairlane with a 390 or a V8 Vega. Rich.

"Ohhh," they tell you, smooth as new asphalt. "Just use shorties." Right. Low $$$ shorties.
