Hello everyone, Deano here from the land of the long white cloud (New Zealand)
Wow couldn't beleive it when I found this site, Finally people like me. I don't feel so left out anymore.
Over here in NZ everyones into jap riceburners, & even though I do like some of them my pride and joy is my 1988 XF Falcon Ute.
I'll give you a quick run down of what I've done & what I'm plannig on doing as a quick get to know me
What I have:
1988 XF Falcon Ute - Venom Red. EL 16' XR8 Wheels, XH rear bumper & spare wheel carrier, XG grill. EF XR6 Seats, EB center console, EF Instriment cluster (Dials), EL Handbrake system.
EFII 4.0 6cyl OHC motor (Non dizzy type), Garrett T04E Turbocharger, 32mm Garrett External wastegate, Cut Down Truck Front Mount Intercooler, 3' Exhaust, BTR 4spd OD Auto Trans, Trans Cooler, External Oil Filter Housing & Engine Oil Cooler, V8 H/Duty Radiator, EF S/Wagon 4 Spider LSD Diff Head, ABS 32 Spline Axles, DBA Crossdrilled & Slottered Disc Rotors Front & Rear, Bendix Ultimate Brake Pads Front & Rear.
What I'd Like, Or am doing:
Full Engine Rebuild EA 3.9 1mm OS ACL Pistons, Molly Rings, New Bearings/Gaskets Etc. Wolf 3D V4.0 ECU, Mitsi VR4 450cc Injectors, Turbosmart 35mm External Wastegate, T5 Manual conversion, Fiberglas Hardtop for Tray & or Tuffdeck Tray Liner + HEAPS MORE.

Im also looking for some advise on what conrods I can use, As I feel they are the week link of my engine once the rebuild is done, So I'd perfer to change them before I have to.

I've done alot of the work on my ute myself, I originally helped build it for a friend of mine but he got fustrated with little problems once we got it up and running, so I brought it off him. So if anyone needs any advise or help please feel free to ask me I'll tell you what I know no prob's.

Welcome to the Forum! To become a fully-fledged Kiwi member, there is one final requirement. When you've completed it, meet me under the asterisks.

Repeat after me: "Fish and chips, six dollars sixty-six."

•To all non-Kiwi, non-Aussie members, that is an Australian joke on the premise that New Zealanders pronounce the short i as a short u.

OK, you're in. Sounds like you've got further down the track than a lot of us, in that your project is up and running! We need more turbo experts on board. Alloydave is the man to talk to about pistons, seeing as he's involved with ACL product in Auckland (via APPCO).

The other Deano from NZ, aka the evil XECUTE, has plenty of laterally derived ideas and a never ending supply of details and hard facts.

Once again, welcome and on with the show. :D

Cheers, Adam.

NO
To much detonation, Is the reason behind the strip down of the engine & requied rebuild.
Not actually after pistions as I have the ACL ones already, I want to find some good rods though!

Thanks for the welcome & yes I do speek kiwi bro, my england is sweet as

Hullo. Welcome to the world of Six, Drags and Bop'n Rule! The other Deano here!

Glad you have a famous name. And a vastly better car than me!

Firstly, your stock rod is about ~ 5.885" long, and is held captive by a block about 9.22" tall. The piston space is only 1.380" from the gudgeon/wrist pin to the top of the block without a gasket. The sums are half the 3.91" stroke (1.955"), plus 5.885, plus 1.380, equals 9.22".

1.The rods you'd be best off with are the longer 6.06" AU or BA rods. The turbo XR6's just have another jet spray oil hole, no forging differences. You you could duplicate this hole on an AU rod. Then look at some great quality rod bolts. Then use ACL AU/BA pistons.

2.If you wan't something bullet proof, try a set of 6 imported 300 I6 Ford con-rods. These are 6.21" long, and would require a 150 thou steel or copper head gasket to get the pistons hidden back in the bore. Most 300's run a bigger wrist pin, so you'd have to bush it, and get the rods milled down at the pin to suit the narrow end of the 4.0 litre crank. Lota work.

3.The 5.85 or 6 inch Chevy rod is now much cheaper. They can be had for about a grand or so. They would fit with some minor mods. You may have to get the bushed type, and rebush to suit the 912 thou pin.

welcome from a fellow ute driver, albeit from across the other side of the ditch , ie the Tasman or wot evre its called, is your ute a feral too or is mine the only feral ute on here so far?
