Oil Filter upgrade? wieght of oil.... any recomendations?

I would like to know if anyone out there is using a larger than the standard oil filter that "the book" at the parts counter recommends?
Also: What brands and wieghts of oil have you had the best of luck with?

If you have the room a larger oil filter is good idea gives a little extra oil capacity. Also if you have a more heavy-duty use i.e. like ranchero, station wagon, performance use. Most important though is to use a good filter that has an anti drainback valve IE Napa (Gold), Wix, Motorcraft, or Purolator I think Baldwin may also be made that way.

Another thought might be to add a sandwich adapter from Ford 2.3T. You should be able to easily plumb the coolant lines in from the heater out/in on the six. You will get a little extra capacity, and it will help warm the oil up faster and keep it cool once the engine is hot. You could alternatively use the adapter from a Volvo B230, and install an airil cooler from an RX7. That would give you another quart or more of capacity, and help keep oil temps down. The RX7 core is nice because it includes a built in thermostat.

Random thoughts from a guy who might not be equipped to do so.
Why use a larger filter? If it is changed at each oil change, isn't it large enough to do the job it was designed to do? I guess larger capacity would help in cooling, but it is not like more oil in the pan where it would be of any use for an oil starved engine.

I think the wal mart oil filters (ST8A for the 200) are about as good of a filter as you can get, and they are about half price of the national name brand orange filter. The NAPA/Wix filter is excellent as well for about the same price as orange. I'm not bad mouthing Mr orange, I just think for the price you can get far better. As for oil, I use diesel rated 15-40 in my Mustang. I think (there I go again, doing something I'm not equipped to do) any oil made today is sooooo much better than the oil made even 10 years ago that it doesn't
matter what brand you use. I also think unless you live in a sub zero climate, synthetic oil is only benefiting the oil company when you buy it. I have nearly 200,000 miles on my Jeep Liberty with 99.9% of those miles using wallyworld 5-30 oil with nary a problem.
