I just order the Pertronix Unit and was wondering if it hooks up to the Mallory Hyfire 6a just like the points did?

8) check the instructions you got for the mallory bos, and it should say. if not check with mallory and they should have the diagram you need.

thanks, I called Pertronix and Mallory. Both said that they were 100% compatible. I'll inform ya'll on how it turns out.

The impedince in ohms must be the recommended amount for the application. There are 1.5, 3, or 6 ohm ratings, as well as the 40, 45 and 60 Killer Volt coils in common use. From here on, it gets a little hard to fathom sometimes.

Some buyers don't follow the coil rules becasue its a little hard to understand it all, or becasue they already have a coil, like in your case. It's a pretty common scenario.

The result is people tend to have problems with the dwell adjustment at idle with the the Pertronix II. In some applications with the Pertronix I , such as under hard running, there has been a change in the recomendations in the latest Pertronix catalogue.

You have to check page 46 to 49 of the 64 page catalogue, and check the recomendations.

I had no idea what coil to get so I got the people at summit to look it up while I was on the phone with them and they are sending me the flamethower coil.
