I am trying to work out why the @#$%*! wagon refuses to idle properly (+ I suspect the local servos are financing their holidays out of my fuel bill).... took off the hose to the charcoal canister : from the fuel tank : and I was rewarded with a squirt in the eye. OUCH! Turns out the purge solenoid had died a death and was not sucking the fuel vapour into the motor so, the fuel as A LIQUID was building up in the canister.... This would also explain the stink of fuel on hot days! So, the moral of the story, don't fiddle with the charcoal canister (purge) system on hot days!!
