Unhealthy engine, lots of advance. Healthy engine, less advance.
When you improve engine efficiency and chamber filling, you have to reduce the peak advance. Ping ping ping is good, you just need to limit the peak advance past 2500 rpm a few degrees.
A stock advance curve might have been 6 degrees at the crank, with about 38 to 40 degrees total from 2500 rpm. Anytime you improve the efficiency, you increase the amount of power from the engine, and the advance you were running needs to be pealed back. More powerfull, modified engines need less advance.
I'd try the FSPP or a reworkd Duraspark ignition, and get the ignition advance set up.
