Does anyone know where I can get a replacement sent of rings for a 1960 223.
A few of the rings broke while I was removing the pistons. If I were to replace them all would that require any work on actual cylinder walls themselves?

SEALED POWER Part # E156X is available at Rock Auto
or RING SET SRH563 from Egge Machine
It sounds like you didn't remove the ridge with a ridge reamer before taking the pistons out. Since the rings were broken, check the pistons very carefully for cracked or broken ring lands.
As far as work to the walls, at a minimum, after you remove the ridge you should hone the cylinders to create a proper finish to seat the new rings. Before that, you should measure pistons, cylinder walls (diameter, taper, out-of-round), and piston to cylinder wall clearance. If it was high mileage and burned a lot of oil, the rings were broken before you took it apart, or it has a collapsed piston skirt then it probably needs more work than described above. The easy way to assure a good job is to measure the pistons to verify their size, order new pistons and rings in the next available oversize, then take them to your favorite automotive machine shop to have the cylinders bored and honed to fit the new pistons. They can recondition and swap the rods at the same time.
