The 250 is sitting on the garage floor right now almost completely assembled and ready to be put back in the Mustang but I forgot to buy a port divider and have the machine shop install it while the head was there. I have decent MIG welding skills and have no doubt that I could do it, but my question is can I weld it when the head is still on the block or is this just asking for trouble???

8) you can do it, as long as you block off the ports below where you are going to weld. dont need any welding slag dropping down into your new motor. also put the valve cover on to prevent the same thing.

Pull the rocker shaft off so the valves are closed. then blow the ports out with air when you are done before putting the shaft back on.

I am curious as to how to weld cast iron with a MIG - anyone?

I picked up some 'easy grind" mig weld wire for body panel work which was recommended to me and asked about wire for cast iron. The welding supplies place said they had wire for cast iron. I haven't picked up any yet because I could only get it in the big spools (#10-#11).

I order two dividers from Clifford. I am in Canada, and I had them, like overnight. They have them in stock and will probably ship right away.

Oh, never mind...I misunderstood, I thought you wanted to fab something up.
