Got a 74 Maverick witht he stock engine of course. Would it make any sense for me to switch to the DS2 since I already have the DS1?

The only thing you gain is the larger diameter cap which has the terminals spaced farther apart. If you running a high performance engine at heavy loads/WOT pushing lots of dynamic compression and have a high-output coil then it "may" be beneficial.

If this is a daily driven, mostly stock street car, fuggedaboudit.

8) you can install the larger cap easily enough with the cap adapter that ford used. if you cant find one at your local parts store, or they cant order one for you, check the salvage yards for one.

If it is time to replace the cap, rotor and wires anyway there is certainly no harm in upgrading to the DS2 parts. I wouldn't throw away good parts to do so, however.

Ok so I'll stick with the current setup then. After that, what would be the next best upgrades for a mild build?

Guess what I'm looking for is for the motor to be very reliable in the MPG department and also some extra HP would be nice.

8) start by pushing the timing until you get detonation, and then back a couple of degrees until it stops. install a header, then update the carb to a carter/weber 2bbl carb.these should net you another 20hp.

Help me out here. How do you go about doing the first process you mentioned in that post? I'm a newbie.

advance the timing two degrees, drive it around and if it dosn't spark knock or be hard to start try another two degrees...and so on..
