hey, i am a beginner with my 85 xf falcon gl.

my 3 spd auto is slipping like hell so i want to put in a new box, is it easy enough to put in an auto 4spd from a later model xf? say 87.
What other mechanical changes would i have to make to put the upgraded 4spd in?

btw its running a 4.1 ltr xflow (carby fed)

any advice would be cool , thanks

I am prepared to be wrong, but... The EA Falcon was the first to introduce a 4-speed auto in the early years of its model life.

If you wish to stay auto without major conversion issues, the easiest fix is another BW Model 40. A much stronger box is the Ford C4, but you will have to buy one with all the changeover parts (not a whole lotta stuff, but not a walk in the park). I know of one for sale in Sydney at the moment, but am sure there are more.

Adam.

i think you have to have a computer to have a 4 speed auto in the falcons?

ok thanx all for the knowledge !
i think i'll juss get a replacement 3spd then. problem is they all so old that they are prone to do the same thing as ma last one did. and thats my 2nd box too in the old xf.
