Hi , have any of you aussie guys ever used any rust repair panels from RareSpares . Im looking at replacing the front floor pan on both sides of my XR wagon .Mines had a patch job done in the past by the dreaded previous owner ,whos just welded a patch over the top of the rust holes.Im not sure if the WOF/COF facists will pass this type of dodgy repair .Ive got new carpets to go in ,and thats a job i only want to do once .So has anyone done this type of repair on there pride and joy ,is there any tricks or tips to be had to make the job easier . I thinks its just a case of working out where to cut the old pan out and weld in the new section in ,but that sounds alot easier than it probably is. WADDA YA RECKON .
PS; Rarespares p/number for the panels are RP202 and RP 203
i was going to put this post in the Body section but thinks its more of an Aussie / Kiwi thing .

hey dave

i havent used floorpan sections but my xa has new rare spares sections in the front guards and they are pretty good and the new metal is of good solid quality so i presume the floorpan sections are just as good!

id reuse their stuff so i dont think u will have any problems!

its good stuff to weld too!

oh one more thing, if u intend on using the whole section, leave at least 5mm of lip..... as when u weld it in it will suck down so underneath may need a lil attention but u will do fine..... keep us posted!

Dale's Panels in Maryborough, QLD make the best rust repair panels.

The correct method to repair rust is to lay the new panel over the rust hole, cut through both panels together to produce a hole in the original panel with a perfectly matching repair panel and butt weld them together.

Strictly speaking, if you overlap the repair panel, it is not a legal repair (at least in QLD)

Have fun!!

i didnt know if a lap repair would or wouldnt be, spose for a floorpan a butt weld would work best, i did a lap weld on my guard sections from advice from my panalbeater to get a better finish so im not up on the legalities of it, thanks tuff for filling me in on that one if ever i need to do a floor section  christ hope not tho
