Well, I made it back from my 2nd depolyment to Iraq. I have a little less than a year till I am due for another deployment to Iraq.
I haven't had time to install the new painless wiring kit (family,Christmas, New Years and so on), but I plan to install it in late Jan or early Feb.
I was looking at possibly going with Mike's DUI dizzy in place of my stock dizzy. Any other suggestions??? I'd love to get my hands on one of Mike's new Alu heads, but that'll take another trip to the middle east.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers while I was away.

8) the dui is an excellent way to go as it packages everything together nicely. another option, is you want to save money for the new head is to use a duraspark dist and connect it to a chrysler ignition box. mine works great. my motor fires up first time even in sub 20 degree weather with no choke and two pumps of the throttle.

Welcome home!

I am very partial to the factory Duraspark distributor, (recurved to what I need) and a MSD 6AL. PLENTY of fire!

If you don't need the power of MSD, I would use a Chrysler box like rbohm or even a GM HEI module (must be mounted to a heat sink, tho...) The duraspark distributors are great but I don't care for the ignition boxes that much.

I have to echo many of the above posters. Thanks for your service. Hopefully you(we) will be successful and my son will not grow up in a world where we are still facing the problems with Terror we are today.

What else have you done to the engine?

ASMART,

Unfortunately, the only mods/upgrades I have made are listed just below my name. I plan to install the painless wiring harness later this month or early next month. I also want to get the DUI dizzy and rebuild my diff.
When I moved from Phoenix AZ to Great Falls MT I had to make many adjustments to the carb and get the dizzy re-curved. That took up a lot of my time between deployments and I wanted to spend time with my wife and kids before leaving so the car was put on a lower priority. Now that I am home for at least the next 6 months if I can I'll work on it, otherwise, I'll drive it as it is.

HUH? Moving to a higher altitude should not require a recurve....you just advance the timimg a couple of degrees. (by turning the whole dist)

I missed the info at the bottom. The ignition probably is the best thing to do next. You already have most of the major work done. Now you may look at eliminating parasitic losses such as electric fan and water pump.

Good luck with the car and even better luck in Iraq,

Linc's 200

Some where some how the dizzy got out of whack. I tried advancing and retarding the timing and nothing made a significant difference. I tried to re-stab it a couple of times to compensate and still nothing really helped. So I took the car to a shop that specialized in timing and tuning and the guy hooked it up to his Sun emmissions tester and a few other diagnostic machines. He narrowed it down to re-curving the dizzy. The car ran/runs much better now. He suggested going with a holley carb since no one around here has really dealt with Weber carbs. The shop owner and I talked about possible upgrades here and there to improve performance. I mentiooned Mike's Aluminum head and his eyes lit up. He said the DUI dizzy would make a significant improvement over a stock dizzy with a Pertronix module. So that will be my next upgrade.

Its a great item, but if you want a set-up that kick's the DUI's butt, get a Duraspark dist and a MSD 6. Comparing the two would be apples to oranges. The MSD is FAR superior.

another option is $100 Pertronix set-up. You'll hear no complaints from anyone whose running it.

WHOOPS! I just read your sig… you already did it. So now I'm curious, what will you gain by upgrading the ignition from the Pertronix set-up?

Lincs' 200, as for the DS2 and a MSD6 being better? Mraley dd a chassis dyno comparison in his stang They dynoed the car with a DS2 and MSD box then replaced it with a new DUI unit difference was 13HP and 9ftlb's of torque more than the DS2.

Everybody seems to have a problem with the Ignitor II's. No such complaints from the Igniter I's. Well, not as many complaints.

8) i do have the pertronics l installed on my 64 falcon, and it runs just fine. i think it would be better if i had a dual advance dist rather than the load-o-matic though.

and yes there is a way to use the pertronix with the msd box. contact pertronix for a wiring diagram.

There's something fishy going on there.....

I have built enough engines in my life to know that you don't get monster gains like that from a basic distributor swap. I'll bet other factors were involved.
