Resistance wire with Duraspark

What will happen if you do not bypass the original resistance wire in a 65 Mustang when installing the Duraspark?

I understand that the module will receive less voltage, but what are the overall effects on the duraspark setup? lower gas mileage? rough running?

Also, curious why no one runs the Jacobs Electronics setup. Is the duraspark that much better or what?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

Kurt.

Before we went to the trouble of running a new wire off the back of the ignition we tried applying 12 volts from another source to the coil. Imediately the rpm's increased and the engines smoothed out a bit. It definately makes a difference, try it and see.

Kurt - There are a few here running Jacob's components with the DuraSpak, I for one, and Ric Tucker. Don't know about anyone else. I think the big thing is the money for Jacob's stuff over MSD and other variants. I don't have the Jacob's computer, but I'm running their Ultra coil and 8.5mm wires. Works like a charm. Here's a pic:

Have you checked your voltage at the end of the igntion wire? My 65 had 12Vs at the coil end...meaning I didn't have to worry about re-wiring anything.

Get a multimeter and check first.
