Howdy All:

I just received a tip on using the retainers from a FoMOCo 4.0 V6 in our engines. They fit a 5/16th valve stem and a stock 200 spring perfectly. I was able to get a set from the Ford Parts window in two days. The only down side was the price. A bag of six for $16.38, or $2.73 apiece. OUCH! I hope someone can tell me how these prices compare with retainers from Clifford or Comp.

They weigh in at 23.5 grams. A very scarce, early 260 V8 one piece retainer weighs 24 grams and the OEM I6 2 piece retainer weighs 30 grams. Lighter is better.

Adios, David

How about a little help from some of you parts guys? What's NAPA's part number and price?

Or Autozone? or Checker? or ???

Thanks

Just curious - did the sixes always run a 2-piece retainer in the US? We went to 1-piece about 1969.

Adam,

Yup, from the 1960 144ci to the last of the 1983 200's they were all two piece retainers. The 250's too.

So what does an AU retainer look like, and how much does it weigh? And also, how much does one cost? Can they be bought at a dealer?

Thanks

Dennis,

I don't know what they weigh (it was my brother who had the scales that measured grams  ), and I doubt Ford still stock them, but can check. I'll photograph one today sometime - due for a purge of the camera memory this week, so I can email some pics in the next day or two. Crow and Yella Terra both sell retainers to fit, I think.

Adam.
