hi, I changed my head (hardened seats 68-200") and used a victor gasket about 5,000 miles ago. do i need to retorque the head? if so, is there any special procedure?
also i went to a pertronix,40k coil,.050 gap similarly about 4,000miles ago. every thing seems AOK. what do i need to do to maintain? will it run long like HEI system or similar?
Thanks for your experiences, recommendations

Howdy Frankie:

No need to retorque the Victor gasket so long as it was installed properly, and the block and head mating surfaces are relatively flat. I hope you milled the head to compensate for the differences in gasket thickness, otherwise you'll lose compression- performance and economy. Milling not only reduces the volume and raises compression, but it provides a true mating surface.

The PetroniX in a '68 distributor, in good shape, should give similiar performance and longivity as compared to a DuraSpark II system, but with a stock appearance.

i dont know how much it was milled. i bought an exchange head from American which looked like a real good job. it indeed was a 68 head as i checked the casting ID. checked visually for the inserts. checked the two end chambers at 50-51CC.

changed to early adjustable rockers to bypass non-adjustable/endplay issues.

i torqued the head in 3 stages per the ARP instructions using the lube provided.( new head bolts/washers from Fordsix.)

thanks for the input

forgot to mention i am using the dual vacuum distributor, but only using the outer side of the vacuum chamber ported to manifold and set at 12 degrees initial with advance disconnected.

As long as you had adequate "coffee breaks" between torque stages for the head gasket, nothing to fuss about. But you do need to let it relax a little before the next stage each time.
