Rocker assembly question

I have carefully dissassembled a stock adjustable rocker assembly but have two questions.

First, the pedastal closest to the front of the motor has an oval shaped top with a smaller hole which looks like it might be an oil weep hole of some sort. Which direction should this hole face...closest to the distributor side or to the exhaust side of the motor?

Second, when I re-assemble everything, is plain old motor oil sufficient to use as a pre-lube or should I use something more substantial?

Thanks. :)

Gene, the front rocker arm pedastal should place the overflow orfice on the left side of the engine where it will supply the dizzy gear with extra oil flow.

If the engine is already broken in ,camshaft & rings just use the oil you have been using.

However valvoline race oil which has the extra ZZDT for anti scuffing should always be used.

I know royal purple race oil also has the correct amount of this anti scuffing agent.

If the engine has new rings & camshaft make sure you use the above oils & also to be on the safe side use GM's EOS, comp cams additive or schneider cams additive for scuffing protection.

Remember i sell hardened dizzy gears so you won't distroy a good camshaft's drive gear. Bill
