REDLINE 10K
An acquaintance of mine called today. Says he's got his paws on two "Fairmont GT" XY models, one with shaker, at pretty fair prices. Prod code MS33 or somesuch. Any of you bods know much about these cars? I understand they were shipped fully assembled. Mostly curious about the engine internals/state of tune.

Adam.

There were around 100 sent there from Oz. The Ford Fairmont GT was a specialty model, should have the KM/h speedo, sunroof and non-Aussie colours.

There was info from Street Machine a while back on them. They are good things.

The F150 was assembled there from Aussie RHD CKD kits, and there were about 200 South African TC Cortina V6's with the 2.5 Zephyr Mk IV engines imported to Oz in the early 1970's before the Aussie 200/250 TC Cortina 6 came on stream. They had a funny bonnet, Four cylinder diff and Capri gearbox.

There are people exporting them back to aust now. Saw an ad in world car trader. They are pretty much the same as a falcon GT in aust with some even being HO spec.

Pete

Australian Muscle Car Magazine had a big write up on them not so long ago I think, as well as the cortinas, toranas and monaros exported there I think ?? :?

Well, I finally got to see one in the fleis. Fairmont GT in Melbourne.

Factory colour was that bluish tinged white, with a vinyl roof. The roof had been stripped, its dividing trim removed and the whole car painted pretty "wet" with the scarlet red favoured for XY GTs. Factory shaker (got to say, it makes the cheap shakers look cheap), speedo as X described.

Some cool touches - seatbelt catches said "DRUK" (Press), on the radiator an Efrikorner version of Natrad sticker  , various club stickers on the rear glass, different imprint logos on the glazing. Alternator regulator on radiator support panel passenger side; coil mounted where regulator normally is. No rev limiter but some retouched wiring. :?

Should be able to get some (just a few, no full shots) pics up in a week or so. Not "officially" for sale, but... (We all know that deal, right?) It's tempting but there are bigger issues to deal with at present than another car!

Ah,South Africa. The "other" California,or,Arizona. Land of no(or very little...)rust. Lots of old cars down there  . OO6./The-X-Or-Six!

You been there? I'd love to go myself. Everyone tells me that once you get away from the coast, it's dry like that you compare to. Aussies were kind of in no-speak mode vs the Japies from '71 through to the release of N.R. Mandela.

I'm told the horse-traders are now getting greedy on the cars. Had to happen.

Nope. But my Landlord has a pal named 'Jimmy' who is into the strange & unusual(mostly VW's/NSU's RHD 'Yank's',ect,ect....). He has brought back from S.A.:---A RHD '65 Ford F-100. A '62 Chevy Biscayne Taxi. A '65 VW Fastback(Type-II...). A honest-To-God RHD '57 Chevy Bel-Air Convertable, along with hundreds of pieces of VW sheetmetal & accessories(roof-racks,overriders--that sort of thing...). He sell the sheetmetal, but,he's kept the cars. All are pretty much un-restored. OO6./The-X-Or-Six!

a friend of mine imports them back into australia and ive seen a few of them 1st hand...most of them are pretty good.

Im pretty sure he is still importing them but i havent seen him in awhile so unsure, check out his website www.aussiexport.com

Addo. Go to fomoco.com. Dave Frake has some info on them there.

I fact this site has lots of great info.

Mark

OK, some pictures! They're all linked to larger ones.

ZA's answer to Natrad:

I plain forgot to see if any HO options like the relocated UCA are there.

Not sure if the donk is original to the car. Maybe the Mustang nuts can tell me if there is any significance in the type or position of the serial.

Currently, it's got cast manifolds on it.

Cheers, Adam.
