i'm taking a serious look at our cranks and how they're made, material, and improvements. the crank is very lightweight in spite of it's length. that tends to be an advantage. questions!

1) material. aussie and argie crank material.

2) our cranks have 4 counterweights. our competition has 6 and 12. weight again is a problem, as well as harmonics.

3) adding counterweights to reduce vibrations at high rpms (8 to 10,000) range.

4) use of an aussie 3.46 (221) in our lm blocks?

hey
1. all aussie cranks are cast iron there was a rumor that the 221 was a steel but it is cat iron to.
2. all aussie 200/250 are 6 counterweighted... but the good news is also that the late ohc 4l (245) crank can be modded to fit early blocks and fits in some late 250xflow blocks.
the adavntage of this crank is the 12 counter weights removing bad harmonics at 5800rpm
even more advantage is the fact that the xr6 crank was knife edges at the factory.
3. balance and weighing every part to be pricsly the same iw hould do before adding counter weights.
4. lm block i assume you mean the 250 block can be done but requires lots of stuffing around a kiwi bloke done it.
i think the better solution whould be to get a 221 and stick a 2v/fs1 head on it with injection id swap my 250 for one :(
any more questions?

what it is, is our late production 200 block that the bell housing area is similar to the 250 as the starter is below the pan rail!. what i'm curious is weither a 221 (3.46 stroke ) crank will fit our 200 blocks as it's only an additional .170 throw on the crank. theres lots of metal to remove if the rods interfere. how hard would it be to obtain an aussie crank?

hey
aviablity about same as 2v head
i think they will but not sure i think they where different to the 170/200 as they where 188?/221
then there was 200/250 out here

Easiest to either get a 221 from AzCoupe or direct from Early Bird (+ 61 3 9462 2920). Sydney is pretty much "fished out".

Consider buying a whole motor to play with.
