So DUI w/65 170 should fix?

I've read through a number of the posts and have a few questions:

So, a '65 (block C5DE-6015-F) 170 should be able to use the same DUI as the 7 bearing 200? -Because it's a later 170 and should have larger hole for dizzy shaft, right?

I checked the Performance Distributor's site and I didn't see one listed for the small block sizes. Am I missing something? What's the part # for the small sizes?

What carbs are people running with the DUI? Anyone running early 1100's with DUIs and using manifold vacuum? Is there a topic I should check on that, or should I just search?

These all sound like excellent questions for Mike (AzCoupe), he is the guy who keeps this website running and sells the DUI distributors over on his commercial website http://classicinlines.com/. A few weeks ago he announced that he is selling DUI distributors for both small and large drive distributor blocks (early and late, 1/4 vs 5/16 shaft). If you decide to install one you will need to use vacuum directly from the manifold.

you can PM him throught forum, wait for him to read this post, or contact him through the Classic Inlines page.

thanks ron.

okay, so sounds like Mike's site has them listed but Performance may not yet.

Another post about using DSII and DUI indicated that using manifold vacuum wasn't intended vacuum source. - If I go that route am I shooting myself in the foot? Don't want to be a moron and take a nice dizzy design and then mess up by making it work poorly (not optimally perhaps is better expression) by using wrong carb/set up.

So, do want to hear from anyone running manifold vacuum with the DUI, and to hear what kinds of changes in settings they've done to work around, and if they were satisified that they worked around it.

Also, can I be sure that my 170 C5 block is the 5/15ths shaft?

- I think I'm one of the few people happy with my 1100. Took a while, but it runs great now. Chronic issue was flooding, which was due to the fuel inlet fitting coming loose (finally used blue threadlock on it - I know overkill, and a new fuel line - think the other one wasn't lining up well enough).

My friend in WA state (sharris on here) has a '66 Mustang with 200 in it. When he bought it it had points, we put in a DII and Ford blue module in it, ran like a top, started much better, then we got a carb (unsure of make/model) from Colorado66 (also forum member) to replace the 1100. We replaced the 1100 not because he didnt like it, but because somehow the top cover was cracked and the pushrod that goes to the dashpot (made out of plastic) was broke in such a manner that it did not stay in place and would cause a funky stall. But anyhow, when he moved to WA he said it got abotu 25-27mpg with the 2.77 trans.

Recently the electronic ignition started giving him troubles and he upgraded to a DUI from Mike (AzCoupe) and says that it is much easier to start then with the DII, and that it has not missed a beat. I have not experienced any DUI action (the dizzy or with the cops) but he claims its phenomenal (sp). Both his DII and DUI have been hooked up directly to manifold vacuum, and if he is having any sort of problem, I never noticed it (on the DII anyhow).

I suppose you could always pull out your distrubutor and measure the oil pump shaft connecting portion. Also there were some early blocks that had smaller holes where the distributor goes into the block, measuring that couldnt hurt either.
