I would like to get more RPMs out of my 1963 170 Falcon. It has a Dual outlet header, Fresh NEW!!! 78 200 milled .090 head, 46 cc combustion chambers, stock dished pistons, valves shimmed .035, weber 32-36 well tuned with clifford 1v to 2v adaptor, stock points ignition (petronix didn't work at all for me). Note no porting or polishing done yet although I will be doing it soon. Everything not mentioned is stock. What can I do in order to get maybe 500 or more RPM safely and, still have excellent driveability?

When you have the head off to do some porting, throw that junk 2-1 adapter away and fit your 2bbl directly to the head. That will give you more useable rpm than just about any other mod. You should also consider a mild camshaft upgrade at that point.

Short stroke 200's should be OK with a stock bottom end at 5000-5500 rpm. Average piston speed is well below 4000 fpm.

The biggest deal will be breathing.

I'd also look at the valve springs- you say they are shimmed, but what's the open ond closed spring pressures? IIRC old 289 springs work with these (may require a special retainer) and have the ability to live at the huge rpm the even shorter stroke 289's could like at.
