Spark plugs (look, please)

These are what my plugs look like after a week of driving with my 32/36 installed.

This is my setup:

14* initial advance
DSII ignition
Full synthetic oil
87 oct. gas
32/36 (the jets are
Primary Main - 180
Secondary Main - 135
Primary Air - 185
Secondary Air - 140
Primary Idle - 70
Secondary Idle - 60)
180* thermostat
Good oil pressure (haven't gotten an exact reading, yet)
And no vacuum leaks that I know of (replaced my two hoses :wink: )

My question...should my plugs look like this?

I remember when I had the YF carburetor, the plugs (same ones) were ALWAYS completely black.

Congradulations. Wheres the hydrocarbons and soot? The envirnomental lobby should give you an Exceutive Order!

The engine looks like its running fine to me. As long as there are no speckling on the isulators from over heating, you've got it made.

The NO 6 and 5 spark plugs must not show any signs of leaning out or burning. The No 1 cylinder is always over cooled, so you can have any amount of blackness on it. Use the back plug readings to decide on if you need to go richer.

Index all the plugs so they point to the exhast valves, via use of the after makeet steel washers, and keep reading only No 6 and 5 each week. Take photo's, and you'll see if the thing is running okay. If the head doesn't have inserts, it may suffer some valve seat recession and pinking under load in the exhast area if it is run lean.

The stock float level isn't too low?

I'll bet the the part throttle economy good!

(The BMW practice of engine development runs the engine for 12 000 miles, and weighes the engine components to deffine how much attrition has taken place. They also log the lambda ratio and optimise the air/fuel mixture based on these inputs. At the laboratory, we used to use a scale accuraste to 0.0001 grams. You could weigh a set of plugs, and measure the increase in fouling or the loss due to over heating. :wink: )

Junk-Falcon, I couldn't tell you what the numbers are I simply told the counter help I need platnium plugs for a 68' Mustang w/ 200-6 (that's my block mfg. date).

I can check the numbers on the plugs tomorrow if you still need them.
