Starter Question

I need a starter for my 250/AOD build. I'm using CI headers and I'm a little concerned about clearance issues. So, I'm out checking the oil in my 92 f150/4.9 a minute ago and notice the starter on the 300 is much smaller than the stock small six starter.

Since I'm going to have a 164 tooth flexplate for the AOD, is there any reason why a starter from a 92 AOD 4.9 F-150 wouldn't work on the 250?

@Econoline,

I used a PowerMaster PMGR (gear reduction) starter advertised as being for a SBF and it fit my 250 with CI headers just fine. I have the steering centerlink flipped to the bottom of the pitman arm and idler arm, but that fits also. The largest issue with starter clearance was the transmission cooler lines; they fit but came too close to the headers. I eventually rerouted those to the passenger side and over the top of the transmission.

Thanks
Bob
