Well my turn is coming up for an OZ head [thanks Azcoupe] and my question is relatively simple: is it worth it? I have an '81 head that has a directly mounted holley on it, TONS of porting and polishing, larger valves, etc. Should i spend the extra $600+ in other areas for a better "bang for the buck" ?? thanks guys

You must think so or you wouldn't have bought one.
I should be getting my 250 2V head and 200 block back from my engine builder next week. After buying the head I spent another $14-1,600 on labor and hard parts for the engine build, most of it on the head.
I'll probably spend another $3-500 on stuff I need to perform the installation not including a performance built C4 auto. I'll post details and pics later.
But back to the question is it worth it, for me it's more the fulfillment of a 2+ year dream. Lets hear from some others who have been driving one for awhile to hear how it compares to the old log head.

Well, $600 might get you a head, but it'll soak a few more bob to really strut its stuff on a 200. Don's pretty typical of what they can suck up in dollars.

My opinion is that if $600 comes close to maxing your present budget on a purchase, don't do it. Grab the good gear that could work well with either your current setup or a 2V head. The only difference will be that the log is potentially asthmatic at higher RPM; self limiting if you like.

Regards, Adam.

I think it was worth every penny.

I had mine done with enlarged valves, and the intake was modified for a 4V carb base, so I'm running a 390CFM HOlley 4V. I love it.

Cost of OZ head $600, cost of Holley $200. Poppin the hood and seeing the look of bewilderment on the face of the guy who swears you have a V8... priceless!!!

If you have the money to buy the OZ head now do it! You'll only regret not doing it later. Even a stock OZ head on a stock 200 block, will blow you away in the performance that you will get. Heck even the Holley 5200 on a stock OZ head will impress you.

I think it's the best bolt on HP that you can do for the money!
