T5 Tailshaft Counterweight

G'day, I have recently installed a T5 from an XF into my XW falcon. Because I may return the car to original condition some day I didn't cut a huge hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter and with the thumping great counterweight on the head of the tailshaft there is very little clearance. So little clearence, that occasionally when I give her a bit it scrapes on the screws that hold a rubber seal in place surrounding the shifter. Does anyone know if I could have this weight removed and the shaft rebalanced to give me some extra space, or will I have to cut a larger hole and get an XF floor hump and weld it in place? Another thing. With the weight in place there is very little free play between it and the rear of the extension housing where the shifter goes, yet the shaft has plenty more length that, if the weight was removed could be in use. I don't really want to go over a bump too hard and smash the extension housing, So if the weight can't be totally removed, I'd have to get it shortened a little at least. Cheers, Tony

What about skimming ½" off the weight's diameter? You mean the one on the yoke, right?

Yep, that's the one. It's not the diameter that's the greatest problem... well it is, but there is only maybe 20mm between the front of the weight and the rear of the housing, but there is an extra 20 to 30 mm of travel on the shaft itself.
