i mentioned in earlier posts I had a tapping sound after a head re-do...I am now th8inking it might be a lifter. It is now at the shop gettng looked at...after all, it should be under warrantee...

how are the lifters repalced..a.s one long unit or individual? I have all original stuff....

and what is a good price if it is the lifter...? I didnt replace them beofre but they seeemed to be fine before teardown...HMMM?????

I just cant get this car right to sell....(kinda my point)

Maybe you shouldnt sell it then!!! I was DETERMINED to sell my 66 but Ill be if it didnt mess somethin up every time I tried to get rid of it. FInally, the ignition (in the dash) would not click over unless I turned it, it was wierd!!! Now that Im workin on it and givin it love, it will turn over for everyone and anyone that wants to start it. Wierd...

I dunno, havnt seen it, but it happened to me, the car would start just fine, it was just that no-one could get the key to turn. I remember when I first got it it did this for a little but it went away and then when we tried to sell it I was the only one that was able to get it started, maybe I had it down to an art cause I drove it all the time, but recently I told my friend that story and he tried to start it and it came right on. Oh well, hope you didnt think I stole the story, but I havnt seen Herbie the Love bug (the movie at least, Ive seen the car)

I edited the title of this post....

it wasnt valves or anything...the tapping sound that I thought sounded like marbles...turned out be bad bearings...man I tell ya, whoever buys this car, will have almost everything done...

if I can just get past this tax bill and make it till feb, I can keep her...cause thats when my BMW comes off lease and I am turning it in...

but yep, was berarings...........sux

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD CHANGE WHILE I AM GETTING BEARINGS DONE?

While changing the bearings, be sure to check the bearing journals for size and roundness. If the journals are bad, new bearings won't last.

Not sure what the specs are, but it will require some precision measuring tools- micrometers or a bore gauge (for rod bearing journals). If you don't have the tools, just have the shop check them. Good mikes and bore gauges are 'spensive.

And check the condition of the cam bearings. I've seen one disintegrate....in my old 302...
