Temperature guage T fitting?

I always install mechanical oil pressure guages in my vehicles to give me a "real time " look at what's happening. I installed a mechanical Water Temp guage on my '50 Ferguson and I like the 'real time" response it displays.
I wanted to put one on the Comet project but the instructions cautioned against using a Tee fitting, saying it wouldn't be in the flow of the coolant then. I didn't need a tee on the Ferguson but I do want to retain the original guage in the Comet so I would need the brass 3/8 Tee..
I would think that the coolant would be quite thermally conductive and not need to be in the head bore for it to work. Any Fluid Dynamic Engineers ready to tell me the science or someone tht tried a mechanical guage on a Tee with stock elec.?

It's like plumbing. In reticulation terms, it's a "dead leg" - the hearsay is largely correct.

What about plunging it into the thermo housing? You should be able to find one of the ones tapped for a thermo-vacum switch. Or remove one of the block drain plugs under the exhaust manifold, and fit it in there.

ADDO,
Hey nice idea, just today I plugged the heater ports in the front of engine 'cause the Comet is probably going to be a fair weather fun ride anyway. I could prolly use one of those .

I'm trying to get Project Comet 1) engine running and fully accessorized (elec, controls, fluids, guages etc.), 2) moving and stopping under it's own power, 3) using it as a test bed for the performance and handling ideas I've accumulated in the forums, 4) makin' it purty.

Today was small victories and a few setbacks - got the battery tray to fit with oversize radiator, had to change back to '61 fan due to balancer interference, got the cable accelerator installed but doesn't yet give full WOT, got the Tee fittings for oil pressure and temp guages installed (see above), worked on the later 3.03 tranny fitting the early Comet 3OTT shift linkage, and picked up some Transtar roll-on primer for the quarter panels on their way from Canada.
Then I had to go to work.

Thanks,
