i went from, hopefully, white soot and not aluminum deposits, on one side of my plugs to completely covered with black soot and driving problems
also i am having a loud exaust noise thing so i have been shifting and running too low an RPM it may matter

so i suppose either rich or IGGY problems
coil is on the way gonna try a mallory
plugs changed(copper) # available
gonna exchange wires at the autozoo
also looking for good HiPo plug wires for an old IGGY

everything appears OK but that leads me to the pertronix Ignitor

To me...sounds more like a carb issue.

Usually the pertronix is an either, it works 100% or your car won't start. There is little in between on electronics like that.

i have seen several intermitten problems on DS2 but that is a little bit more than a magnetic pick up..
but i was wondering what the factory specs on Ohms i am sure there are more to these things than i think but i wont be able to tell until one dies

63 Merc, if you have the pertronix II, there is a very good chance that is your problem.

From previous experience with this piece of electronic junk, i have had idle problems, engine dying out when slowing down or at idle, engine idling on 3 cylinders.

If you fall into that catigory thats your problem.

The pertronix I is a great unit, have had no problems with that unit.

Purchase the DUI from Mike at FSPP & you will have eliminated all ignition problems. William

i was thinkiing the ignitor 2 but this ign 1 was 'free' because they backordered my floorpan. i am gonna try a mallory coil 1.4 ohm and 115:1 windings
aded techtron to help with the carbon for now

this carb i think is worn out so i have a couple from a ol' 240 but no luck finding a late 70s head i suppose i have to get a carb also, note i cant spend on a pony carb
