I am working on a 61 Econline pickup. I am installing a 200 I6 out of a 65 mustang. I was wondering what mods maybe done to the intake log?
I would like to try and turbo it also. Read some here on the turbo's and you all make it sound so easy.
Do i need to mod the intake if i go turbo?

I am running a stock 65 head with a clifford adaptor for a 2bbl carb. linc is running a stock head and modded stock carb even.

I would say mod for a direct mount if you have the means just as it will make things so much easier and give you more power (instead of forcing even more air through the stock carb opening)

I could get the machine work done on the intake log. Not a big problem..
But also have had this idea of a turbo on the old motor.. seems a natural for it..

Forthman,
I would highly recommend the turbo upgrade! But I'm biased! I would also recommend the upgrade to the Holley 350 2bbl on a modified log intake. Or just wait a bit for the Classic Inlines aluminum head!

I believe the Econo truck has plenty of room to mount one! I think there's a bunch of room way up front for the intercooler too!

It's not that difficult to fab up so long as you know how to weld and cut pipes. The fuel system and timing are very important but also very achieveable.

Have fun!

yep, I'd also go Turbo. I'm going the Turbo route myself. newer '78 head, lightly ported in the bowls, 3 angle valve job ect... just I wanted all the best parts, so now I'v got $4,000 invested into a car I paid $500 for, but I may put the engine in a T bucket, run some decent street gears ( 3.55, or 3.73's ) and have a nice T bucket, with a Motor that nobody else has, visibil for the world to see

I am leaning toward the turbo for sure.
Think it would be sweet in the old truck.
True there is room up front in the Econo's so i would think i could get an inter cooler in there.
I have been given a turbo off a 2.2 Chrysler, i am hoping that it might work. Atleast for my initial install.
Would the 350 2bbl carb be needed if i go the turbo route?

It would be a lot easier. Linc made a 1-bbl work but it was not ideal. He had to do a lot of modification to make it work acceptably, and still ran lean and broke the ring lands on a couple of pistons.

you must also remember linc was not out to try to make little power... he was trying to push the limits of his motor, and I belive that happened at 23 psi... lol, but yes it took some mods to get the fuel in there for that much air.

True. But it took a far more thorough knowledge of carbs than normal people have. Well, more than I have.

Modifying the 2300 is straightforward, and most any article written on modifying Holley four barrels will do the trick since it's essentially half of a 4100.
