All Small Six Thoughts

This relates to all small sixes
2 dumb questions…
1. Why hasn’t anyone standardized a mod to the log six cylinder head such as milling the log off and offering a improved intake that bolts on for sale. Offer modified heads with intake….
2. Why hasn’t anyone Started importing six cylinder parts such as the cross flow head from Australia?

Thanks Jim

Not a dumb question.

The most likely answer is "very small market", meaning not much/no money to be had addressing 40-year-old technology. The costs for tooling, manufacturing, marketing, etc. could never be recovered by sales, unless the product was very, very expensive.

There is at least one aftermarket aluminum head out there, and I seem to recall posts on the forum referring to a contact that can get foreign-made parts for you.

You can also post an ad in the "Wanted" Classifieds section (as well as looking in the "for Sale" section).

Hi, Offenhauser has been selling a kit for many years that allows installation of three carbs to the large log after machining. Good luck

commercial viability. Folk do much for an income stream. This has too lill interest (were a rare bread dude !)
for any 1 to make a buck. See Mike Winterborer and Matt w/the alloy heads. The casters did not wanna do such “small jobs”.

What most us do is adapt whats close (1. lynx intake, 2.Oz iron-head 2v, DSII back fitted,etc...
/OR/
come up w/our own ( carb hats & turbos).

1. milling the log off (I C em in england’n Oz) That’s what comming here is all about. Others who done it, are tryin it, know what has worked for them, etc.

Using heads from Oz has been done for over 20 years now, maybe longer. There are 2 good option from OZ for them, the 2V and the Crossflow. Both are considered upgrades over the log heads. Cutting the log completely off of the head is out of most enthusiasts wheel house, and since each time it's done, the person doing it may make their particular approach or method unique from the next guy, so there is no standard method or "cut on the dotted line" rules on doing it. At one time it was just cheaper and easier to buy a better head from Oz to begin with and end up with a better sourced intake and header instead of a pricey one off setup and have a better head than one with the log cut off....All of what you are asking has been done for many years, you are just late to the party so to speak....
