Throttle Cable Coversion Question

Have a '66 Stang with a 200 six rebuilt with a Clifford Stage II package. I do not like the way the factory Z-bar throttle linkage works with the 2 bl. Webber carb that came with the Clifford package.

Does anyone know the options for converting to a cable approach vs. the factory Z-rod method? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Howdy Greg:

We've used Maverick/Comet and Fairmont/Zephyr as donors. Get everything from the pedal to the carb connector. You may need the valve cover too as it is the anchor for the cable at the carb end. If you can, remove it yourself and get all the odd little pieces & parts, and reverse the process when installing in your 'stang. IIRC, the Maverick/Comet cable is a little longer.

Good Luck.

Adios, David

Or you can go with a Lokar setup. It's easy to install. Only minor stuff that needs to be mod'ed to get it to fit. I was able to use the factory gas pedal with the aftermarket stuff underneth it. From the inside it looks factory.

I've got pictures...just have to upload them. I got a Lokar throttle cable from summit, and then bought a 65/66 V-8 mustang gas pedal assembly. Works like a charm...looks completely stock from the inside.

Thats what Ive got done as well, v8 pedal from ebay and cable from summit. Dan helped me out on that one, works just fine!

I bought the longest one, 48". I just wanted to make sure I had enough. I ended up shortening it to about 36" I think, but I wanted the option to route it anyway I wanted.

I used a pedal from a 78 fairmont, Lokar 24" stainless steel hi-tech throttle cable and holley throttle cable bracket. Whole set up cost about 60 bucks and works great and pedal looks stock. One important factor if you go w/ this is that when you get the pedal make sure plastic retaining ring at the end of the pedal bracket is intact. Could be modified if not but this will make life a lot easier. I installed it and removed old pedal in about 2 hours(w/ the help of a friend). Did have to modify a little for optimum pedal travel. This set-up works GREAT for me :D
Good Luck, Mark

I took pictures of mine also...just have to load them up...

$5.00 ebay 86 Mustang pedal, $20.00 Car Quest 300 6 throttle cable & homemade throttle brkt.

Works fine for me!!

Like I mentioned before, its a 80's Mustang gas pedal, 300 6 carbed throttle cable and a home made bracket on the valve cover. The valve cover is off the later 70's early 80's 200 and it already has the mounting points on the valve cover.

Hope this helps!

I came up with a pretty simple kickdown for my C4, When I switched over to a throttle cable with my H/W 5200
First I welded a small tab with a 1/4' hole onto the throttle pedal arm about 1-2" from the top.
Then a ran a Lokar kickdown cable from the trans thru the firwall to the throttle arm. The cable housing is secured at the firewall and attaches to the tab
I adjusted it by when at full throttle I pulled the kickdown cable tight and locked down the clamp. I gave just a little room so there no excessive pressure.

I actually got the idea from my old '71 Cutlass. Late 60s- early 70s Turbo 350 trans used a cable kickdown and is mounted to the throttle pedal arm.

If you email me I can send you a couple pics
