timing procedure & Coil hookup

I have two questions:

I understand that I'm supposed to check timing w/out vacuum advance, but do I plug the vacuum source once I remove it or do I let it suck. Does it matter? DSII, Wells contoller, Flamethrower II coil, BTW.

Also, I'm still unlear whether to hook up the coil to the resistance wire or to hook it up to the straight wire that powers the control module. I've tried both, and both "work," but I also don't want to fry my coil.

thanks,

Plug the vacuum line after you pull it.
I think the leak will affect the carb.

Are you using a 12v coil? If so you probably want to bypass the resistor wire. I haven't installed a Duraspark II so I can't give you a better answer to this question.
