I installed a set of headers on my 6 and now when I down shift, the engine backfires. Not much but kinda like a sputter with an occasional low pop (or so it seems from inside the car). I also noticed the milage has dropped significantly. All was fine with the stock exhaust manifold.
So I was told the timing needs to be advanced.
I advanced the timing by 3 to 4 degrees with minimal change. It's now sitting about 1 degree BTDC. Is it detrimental to go farther (ATDC) or should I be retarding rather then advancing?
