Hi All,
After finally getting a broken water pump bolt removed from the block. :? I am now ready to reassemble, what do you all use on the bolt threads? Teflon tape? I have also seen in the plumbing section a paste type thread sealant?

Any suggestions

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

I never used a sealant on my water pump bolts...just the head bolt that is on the Rt front side (I beleive) that actually goes into the water jacket.

I used the hardware store "sealant paste" on that bolt!
:D :D

8) i also have never had a problem with not using sealant on timing cover or water pump bolts. the one time i did use a sealant on a friends car, he insisted on sealant, i used permatex #2. it is a non hardening sealer.

Actually, any bolt/stud that extends into a water jacket (wet hole) should be treated with a thread sealer. Most are a special teflon based sealer which not only inhibit rust and corrosion, but they also provide a lubricant.

It's available thru Summit - page 170 (bottom left corner) in the new 2004 catolog - ARP thread sealer $7.88 per tube.

If you don't use it, the bolt can freeze and twist off as was the case with this head bolt.

One the other hand, if you R&R your head as often as Doug does, then it shouldn't be a problem. :D :D :D
