I'm going to swap water pumps on my '68 200 block and in looking at the parts house listings I see two (Autozone):

Valucraft for $16 or an ASC for $40

Is this simply a matter or new vs. rebuild? If so, I have no problem spending the extra $. If these are BOTH new, then is it worth more than twice as much?

Anyone have lines on an aluminum water pump? If not, anybody have brand preferences for standard ones?

Lastly, my block is out of a '68 (with a '69 head). WHen ordering it, what original vehicle should I ask for parts from ('68 stang, 70's Fairmont, etc?). Does it matter? Were some WP's better (higher flow)? Were all of the 200's of this era the same in regards to water outlets?

Again, thanks to all!!
:o :thanks:

believe me I SAW THAT POST!! I'll give you $20 plus shipping for it!
Looks SWEET man. How many hours went into that? I assume that not ALL pumps from those cars were aluminum...or were they? Did you get it from a parts house?

on asking for the part, i personaly dont think itd make any difference since the parts are interchangable (correct me if im wrong), but if ya wanted be safe, since its goin on the engine, ask for the year of the engine.

Some are short nose, some are long nose. You need the corresponding pulley for each. Clearance issues can occur using long nose pumps in roundbody falcons. It depends on the fan design.

I got the water pump at Kragen. You can go to www.partsamerica.com and look up the part numbers. The brand is GMB.

The nose on the the cast stock pump and the nose on the aluminum Fairmont pump are the same. That's why when you go to the store ask to see all the boxes. Two boxes with the same part numbers may have different pumps in them.
