what are upgrades that a car newbie like myself can do?

Owner of a 74 Ford Maverick. Has the stock 6 cylinder engine and the carb just recently got rebuilt. it's a 1bbl btw.

Anyways, as I keep reading more info on these engine from this site, I'm very curious to know what are some upgrades that someone with limited car knowledge like myself can easily do to my engine. anyways, back to reading!

Hmmm. You already have the good ignition, so that's out. Carb is probably good. I guess exhaust is next?

Step 1: Get a Chassis/Service Manual for your car - they generally run $30-40, and are by FAR the best investment you'll ever make in your car.

Step 2: Get the Ford Six Handbook - something like $15, covers just about every performance mod you'll ever want to consider (except for the new aluminum heads).
