which do you think is the best 2bbl carb for a stock 200? Do you think the holley 2300 is better or the H/W proggressive that tom langdon sells at his website for around $60?
Which one provides more power, and which one gets better gas mileage? This would be for a daily driver, not a race car or anything like that.

As a recent convert to the world of 2BBL carburetors, I'd personally go with the 32/36. Sure it has it's limitations for potential horsepower (150 I think X once stated) but as far as fuel economy goes - great! Once you have the right idle, main and secondary jets installed for your motor - it makes for a GREAT upgrade.

The only negative issue I ran into is hood clearance. If you use Tom's adapter you need to use the stock PCV adapter that came with most Fords at the time. Or, which is really the better chose, use Cliffords adapter. It's about the same height as Toms' but includes a PCV provision. Sure you can drill and tap Toms' adapter for a PCV opening but the adapter will not sit right on the log - it sits at an angle. Makes for a very challenging accelerator linkage.

With those two items, the 32/36 and Clifford adapter, you should be able to use just about any air cleaner housing.

I ended up with Toms' because I was able to find a low profile filter (1-1/2") that worked well with my air cleaner housing.

:D THANKS FOR THE REPLIES

So basically if I want to use Tom´s adapter then I would have to use the stock PCV adapter and find a low profile air filter housing??? Because Clifford's adapter costs more than 4 times what Tom´s adapter costos.
Is that aobut right?

still a lot less down time and headaches if you go clifford.....

is it a daily driver?

From what I've been reading over and over and in the ford falcon handbook thing, the holley 2300 would be a better 2 barrel. But i do remember someone telling me something about a 5200?

The 5200 is nearly identical to the Holley-Webber 32/36. It's a 2bbl carb with a progressive linkage. Until 3/4 throttle, only 1bbl is open. The second barrel open starts opening at 3/4 throttle and opens all the way at full throttle for more power. It's a good economy carb for a mild motor.

Daily driver/better than stock upgrade=H/W 5200

Street/Strip=Holley 2300

Just my opinion! :D :D :D

Howdy All:

I have to make a correction to 67FordMustangs reference to our Handbook.

We did not say which two barrel is best. We made descriptions of the options and tried to list pros and cons. Every situation is different and "Best" has to reference each situation. Doug's comparative above is right on. That's not to stop someone from trying to max out a H/W or goe for economy and driveability with a 2300.

I currently have a 2100 on my engine, a #4412 on the workbench, waiting it's turn. My brother has 2 Carter 2 stage two barrels to try on his 200.

What's "Best"? You tell me.

Adios, David

CZLN6, David i see where you have a holley 4412 500 cfm carb on the bench. If you get your carb on before my complete upgrade, which includeds camshaft, cylinder head with modified log-1980 type with all the extras, including hooker 6601 full length headers. Keep us informed on your progress. As soon as i get my back fixed i'll get this work done.
For performance i will vote for the holley just because of all the tuning options available. I think you will see a great improvement in performance with this carb installed. Lets get busy. William

Sorry, I did'nt mean it that the handbook said the 2300 was better, i was reading around the forums wen i said that. But on the handbook it does seem to me (from wat the pro and cons are) that the 2300 would be a better carb. sorry for the misunderstanding david

Will any 5200 work? What I mean to say is, if I find a 5200 on ebay, lets say, and it doesn't give a description of what it came off of, can I be reasonably sure that it will be okay for my 200ci? Or is there a specific model/year I should be looking for. Also, will the Clifford adaptor work for a 5200?

would an Edlebrock 500 be overkill o a mildly built 250 with 2v head?

Why chance it when you can get one for $65 from a reputable source?

Someone tell me about the Carter Weber for $80?

that carter weber looks like the carb that i screwed up that was on my 200 that i got...never got to find out how it ran stock  (stupid kid...ah well, lol) but it did Idle nice, lol...i had bored it straight out and made a venturi again for it out of JB weld after reading that it needed a venturi to meter the fuel....but the jet in it was only a hole...nothing replaceable only drillable  ..so whatever...maybe that was my problem...the venturi came out really nice, but it was just above the throttle plate which created a strange vaccume on the plate, also when i floored it it would make a funny whistle and then die, lol...so that my experience with it...although it could be a different carb alltogether...mine had what looked like 2 holley nitrophyl floats...kinda weird...wish i tried it out first.

and the best 2 bbl carb for a stock 170??? webber 32/34 or 34/46?? im not interested in gas milleage, just something better than 1 bbl holley, but someday i want to put a cam and make some head mods so i dont want to change the carb twice.

thanks

MY motor guy is setting my 200 up with a 2 bbl Weber. It is off a 70's Pinto. He says it's guarenteed to give you 20 miles to the gallon...ZZ
