As part of my 2.77 to 3.03 trans upgrade, I need to go with the larger flywheel & clutch asm. I plan on using a diaphram pressure plate from a Fairmont / Mustang. So what brands are the best? I want a smooth clutch engagement - no shuddering on engagement. Recently I put in a LUK ProGold clutch asm into my winter car - Isuzu Amigo - what a smooth, sweet clutch - engages like I was driving a high dollar euro luxury car (with a stick). Unfortunately LUK does not list a clutch for the small six.
I read the sticky on the early, dished flywheel 8.5 inch pressure plate substitutions. Are (most / all) clutch discs a standard thickness so that one can interchange PP & disc between different mfgs & even OEMs?
I asked this question over in the driveline section. I received one answer - Ram 88727. I had never heard of Ram before. Anyone have experience with this clutch - especially in a small six? Ram P/N 88727 is a clutch kit for 79-83? Mustangs; I'll have to buy a TO brg for the 3.03 pushrod operated fork.
Anything elese out there? I am willing to pay a premium (say an additional 50 to 100 dollars) over a generic (China?) clutch kit from a chain autoparts store if that will give me a better clutch engagement.
There are 4 cars in my household (each with a stick) - I like driving a stick (but I really dislike a crappy clutch engagement)!
