Gotta question for you guy's---yep,it's true! What does the 200ci incher in my Comet like in terms of ignition timing? The car has a automatic and Powersteering in terms of options,if that means anything. Oh,yes and just for the hell of it,what brand of plugs you guy's running...any brand in particular, any brand loyalties? Good or bad,I'd like to know. Thank you 8) OO6.

Seems like any time some motor is not running well here there is a Champion sparkplug involved, use mostly Autolites now.

8) i also like autolite plugs. as for timing, most engines, including the 200, like 10-14 degree timing.

I run autolites for everything, carb, plugs...

As far as timing, I run mine between 8-10 BTDC. Mostly for fuel economy, since I drive my stang about 100 miles everyday during the week, so every last MPG I can get is good.

Accell U groove plugs and my timing is set around 12 degrees initial, 34 degrees total :D :D

Bosch Platinum, because they were the Platinums available locally. Also, the Pertronix Ignitor with Flamethrower coil. Exact numbers don't mean much if your balancer slipped, but my stocker runs at 12 BTC on regular gas. :D
Carbon buildup will have much impact on compression ratio, and max tolerable timing. Look back for the lengthy post on cleaning combustion chambers by running water through the carb. 8)
Best thing to do is advance timing a couple of degs at a time until it pings going uphill, then back off one deg at a time until it stops pinging.

8) Well.......I prefer Champions over the Autolites / Motorcraft plugs.
I started using them Drag racing in 1968 and stayed with them.
As far as timing goes?....good advice on the topic already
