What is proper method for adjusting float level?

I need to adjust the float level to the proper setting on my Autolite 2100. How is this done? How do I know what the proper setting is with a OZ head? Just use the 289 spec?

Howdy back Vinny:

I'm guessing you've probably already got your self and answer to this one, but I start with the specification on the rebuild sheet, and them adjust from there. About 50% of the time that is real close to good. The rest of the time I'm raising or lowering to meet specific tuning needs. About the easiest thing to screw up when setting the float level is to misalign the needle seat wire and needle. What did you find?

Hi David.

I found that it is best to buy the proper carburetor for my engine from Pony Carbs! :D

However, I did as you implied utilizing the specs and the ruler provided and bent the tab to get the proper height. The 2100 that I was attempting to use on my Mustang is not running fantastic on my Jeep! The Jeep is a 258 inline 6 and can handle the bigger venturi size (1.08) as opposed to what I purchased from Pony. The 1.02 and the Pony build are perfect on the Mustang.

Thanks.

Usually there is a paper or plastic gauge in a rebuild kit. Typically, you put the float/needle/spring/seat mechanism. Then you hold the carb upside down so the float hangs down. You measure the travel using the paper gauge at the point it calls for. The travel is adjusted by pushing the tab over the needle valve up or down.

the last post said to hang the carb upside down to get the float to hang and then mesure and adjust,,,how is this possible?

You do it mid-rebuild when the cover is off the basin. While it is on the engine you have a different condition to work with.
