what is the best sounding exhaust

Galaxie

I noticed my 65 Galaxie has an exhaust leak, hole in the muffler, is there a muffler that you can put on a straight six that does not make it sound like an angry hornet. On V8's a smithy glasspack is my favorite and I prefer glasspacks to flowmaster mufflers in general on V8 engines. What would be my best sound for a I6 I have heard Thrush is good, I just dont want that import sound, I'd rather shut it up than hear that, I've listened to youtube but that sound quality is not the best, also how does straight pipe sound and would that be too little back pressure, what is the best sound (closest to V8 sound)

mine lol I have a cliffy dual out to 2.25 to the flowmaster 40 series and then 2 in tailpipes. There is a guy on youtube with this setup search 66 ford falcon

I'm running a CI dual out header, 2" pipe, thru 2 Dynomax mufflers. With a 268/274 208 cam it sounds great. Everyone that hears it thinks I'm running a built up 8. It gets a little too loud when you get up around 70 so it would be a little bit much on a long trip especially if you like to listen to music.

I have the 200 6 in my falcon and a 1 in 2 out flowmaster knockoff and it sounds pretty good. Ill get a sound clip soon for you guys :)

I had a classic inline dual out header with some 18" extensions and thrush glasspacks welded on and this is what mine sounded like. I had one person guess it was a 6 at the time and he told me he owned a 6 banger mustang. I used to like it

As far as best I think my 3" mandrel bent exhaust with no mufflers and a sidepipe sounded best. It kind of sounded like a diesel tractor but it was the best sounding diesel sound I've ever heard. lol

I tried flowmaster 50 series and I didn't like them. Too tinny IMO for a 6 with dual exhaust. I didn't much care for the sound. After about a year, I had them removed and went with generic turbo mufflers. So much better. Still a nice deep rumble at idle, but not loud. No drone at 2000 RPM, and quiet on the highway (well, can't be heard over the convertible noises). WOT isn't a killer as the flowmasters were (I do admit, the WOT of the flowmasters made me grin ear to ear each time) but overall I'm very very happy with the sound.

But, everyone is different. Plus, it'll make a difference if you are running dual or single exhaust, cam profile, etc.
