ok this is what i have so far..... 72' Maverick with a 200/6 auto matic C4,with a 8" 3:55 rear gears.I have on the way the clifford dual headers.I'm not building a race car but i do want the "WOW" factor of cool looks but i would not rule out a better single carb than the stock autolite 1bl thats in it now. Can anyone guide me towards the next step towards the logical enhancement i should address.I'm guessing carb is the next one ????? Your opinions please................. Thanks. :checks:

@ barrel Carb would be best, maybe get some work done to open up the heads breathing abilities a bit, port polish, valve job, stuff like that. Make the engine breath and it will run better and harder. Either go carb or full out duraspark electronic ignition swap, GREAT thing to do! Im sure others who helped me out will do the same for you as well, just ask away if you need help!

Thanks for the info.Is there an adapter to install a 2 bl carb or does it take machine work ? also, where can i expect to find a duraspark ignition ?

if you haven't upgraded the ignition, i'd go for that just because it would increase the overall driveability of it

there are adapters for the 2bbl

other than that, Jack did a nice little overview here:

the Duraspark II system can be found on the 200ci engines from the fox body cars, the Fairmont is a good choice, i think they started in 79, and ran through 81, maybe 83
so just ask for an '80 distributor, check out the tech section from the homepage, it goes into more detail than i have here

Duraspark II systems started in 1975 model 200 and 250s.

You can adapt the 2bbl carb, but doing machine work to directly fit it will yeild significantly more power. You may as well just use a bigger 1 bbl like a Carter YF from a 300 if you don't want to machine the intake for a 2bbl.
