Which One Should I keep for Spare?

Hello forum mates,
My 1965 Falcon sedan delivery (2450 pounds) was built with a 170/2.77.
As of last month it's latest configuration is a rebuilt 1982 200 (low starter) engine, '60's V8 bell housing and internals, a '70's Maverick 3.03 and a '70's Maverick 8 inch with 2.79 gears.

I do not race it and I do not pull a camper trailer. I use for highway travel to Ford car shows.

I have had 4 engines in it. The current one is very good. It is time to sell the extra engines. I want to keep a few backup parts in case of catastrophic failure. I was mainly thinking the other 1982 200 block and head or the 1973 Mustang 250 and the head from the 1978 engine.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this.
I respect your suggestions.
A list of my 6 cylinder parts is here, what parts should I keep?

ENGINES:
1960 (‘60-62 Falcon/Comet 144 cubic inch, high starter)
block= C0DE-6015 A, blue engine with carb, stick bell housing

1965 (‘64-65 Falcon/Comet/Fairlane/Mustang 200 cubic inch, high starter)
block= C5DE-6015 H date=5D26 7 main bearings, C4, starter, alternator
head= C5DE-6090 date=5C26 w/1.5 Intake bore

1969 (purchased from local Ford store in box, no valves, no springs, not used)
head only = C9DE-6090-M date=9L24
'70-75 F/C/F/M w/1.75 intake bore, 1.669 intake and 1.38 exhaust, valves not installed

1973 (‘72-74 Mustang 250 engine, low starter)
block= D2DE-6015 AA

1978 (‘78-79 Fairmont/Zephyr 200 cubic inch, high starter)
block= D8BE-6015GB 7 main bearings, some are low-mount starter, C4, A/C, PS

1.75 intake bore ‘77-82 heads have 1.76 intake valves & hardened seats

1982 (‘79-82 Fairmont/Zephyr 200 cubic inch, low starter)

head= E0BE-6090 BB date=2C4
w/1.75 Intake bore ‘77 to ‘82 heads have 1.76 Intake valves and hardened seats

1982 (‘79-82 Fairmont/Zephyr 200 cubic inch, low starter, 1982 head) now in my 1965 Falcon

GONE-1981-head only E0BE-6090 BB date=1E4
w/1.75 Intake bore ‘77-82 heads have 1.76 Intake valves and hardened seats
GONE-1973-Mustang-Head= D3DE-6090 date=3K8
‘70-75 F/C/F/M w/1.75 Intake bore. ‘64-76 200/250 has 1.649 Intake valves & 1.38 exhaust

Keep the 1973 (‘72-73 Mustang 250 engine, low starter) block= D2DE-6015 AA because:
1 - It's the easiest way to increase displacement, although it can be a tight fit in your 65 Delivery, and
2 - You can use the '60's V8 bell housing already in the vehicle.

Keep the 1982 head = E0BE-6090 BB date=2C4 instead of the 1978 head= D7BE-6090 AB date=8G17 if they are in equal condition because the 1982 head has the largest intake volume than the 1978 (1420cc vs.1345cc) and would work better with the 250 engine, or with a direct mount 2Bbl carb.

You should also keep the 1982 (‘79-82 Fairmont/Zephyr 200 cubic inch, low starter) block= E1BE-6015 BB if the engine block in you vehicle ever needs replaced ( in case of catastrophic failure).
BUT, if you do sell the block, I would like to purchase it.

Hope this helps.

Definitely keep the 250 block. I sleep better at night knowing I have a spare for mine because it is not easy to find one when you want or need one. In fact I am looking for a third one just in case. You have a pretty good collection of parts.

bmbm is there any compelling reason to keep the extra 1982 200 block?

I just listed the 144, 170 and 1965 200 engines on the forum's for sale folder.

Yep just in case the one in your falcon breaks. The 200/250 are getting harder to find.

Yep at some point you could decide the 250 was needed. If they were in my garage I would sell the early sixties motors and keep the later ones.

I have listed three of the early engines in the For Sale folder here.
The three left are the 1978 200, the 1973 250 and the 1982 200.
I will list the 1978 engine next week.
That leaves the 1973 Mustang 250 and the 1982 Mercury 200.
WHICH DO I KEEP, and WHY?
Thank you, thank you.

How much for the 250? I had a deal with a guy in the Classifieds almost 2 weeks ago for his shortblock and it was ready to ship, but now he's gone missing in action and he wont return emails.

Both engines can utilze the head, bellhousing, and transmission already in your Ranchero.
The 250 is an easy way to increase power.
The 200 would be insurance just incase the one you have in the Ranchero ever grenades. Low mount starter 200s can be hard to find.
Your decision depends on what you want to do to the Ranchero in the future.

Hope this helps.

144 the 170 and the 200 engines can be hard to find. If you have one you may want an extra.
Today I dropped the prices.
They are listed in the FordSix Performance classified For Sale folder.
