after a long search, i've located 2 potential 200 engines. 1 is 3 hour away that has 5000 miles on a professional rebuild. the crank was turned down and the cylinders were bored on the rebuild. it has not been ran since 2001. its complete from intake to pan. it is a '65 block with a '63 head .the guy want $500. the other one i located is only 20 minutes away, has been sitting a long time. it is a '66 with no signs of ever being rebuilt and no ideas of mileage. i can get this 1 for about $100.

Howdy Back Primal:

The engine in the photo appears to have an early ('60 - '62) style exhaust manifold. Both seem high to me, expecially for these years. What is your intended use for this engine? If I were in your shoes, I'd be looking for a late '70s engine for many reasons.

How about some more details about your goals and intended use?

Adios, David

i want dailey driver abilities with a more kick than the 170 in my 62 comet. i can't seem to come across a 200 locally. these are about my only 2 options. i would love to find a late seventies block. the exhaust manifold is not a problem because the engine is going to get a header. the head i want to replace eventually w/ the aluminum but for the time being i'm going to run a stock head while i'm building a tri-power head like patrick66 did.

I would lean toward the 66 but only after checking to see if it has the duel drilled bell housing. That would be the biggest difference that you would want to have or else your stuck with lotsa work or crummy transmissions

Try this link I"ve had good luck with it http://www.car-part.com/

If I had to choose between the two motors your looking at I'd go with the 100 dollar one. I don't trust people I don't know and would rather be out of 100 bucks than 500, but I'd pour trans fluid in the cylinders and let it sit a while then go through it and replace the valve seals and rear main seal before I stuck it in.
