Wing window clamp install.....Dangit!

I ordered new clamps for the wing windows on my '64 as they didn't exist when I got the car. Showed up in the mail with the washers and pins, everything I needed, or so I thought. Are there supposed to be rods or pins or something that fit into the wings themselves or what? Basically, what do the clamps attach to? Is there a piece in between them and the window? I'd post pics but my camera is busted. Does this make any sense to anyone? Help!

From memory (its been 8 years or so since I had mine apart) there is a roll pin that retains the latch lever to the shaft that is part of the window asm. FWIW, test fit the window seal before pressing the pin all the way in. I added an additional very thin shim (very thin washer) under the latch lever to get the winow to seal better - this can grealtly reduce wind wistle at freeway speeds.

I knew there had to be something. Any idea where i can get a set of these roll pins? My junkyard ventures have been fruitless and I can't find anything on the internet.

Any good hardware store should carry them. On line, my favorite supplier of stuff: McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#steel-roll-pins/=cfxuhu. You will need to measure the diameter (should be in fractions of an inch - probably in 32nds). One easy way to get a close measure the diameter is to use a drill bit (shank).

Is that the problem ; a hole where a pivot pin should be ? They do not seem to be reproduced ; I checked the online catalogs of several vendors . You would need to find good used vent frames . I believe '60-'65 will fit - somebody correct me if I'm wrong . I have a good '61 passenger side one I could sell but better yet for you , there is a pair from a '62 on Ebay . Lowes or Home Depot should have them, seen they carry some sizes at local Home D here.

Yeah, thats exactly it. Do you have a pic of the rollpin itself, maybe I could duplicate it at a hardware store like bubba said.

Wait. Scratch all that, I have the roll pins, I need the shaft that the latch and roll pin attach to. My window has none, and looks like the pic that oldgrezmonke posted.

I have verified elsewhere that vent windows will swap from '60-'65 . That would be your best bet . There is a pair available for $15 + shipping over on TFFN .

You mean I gotta swap the WHOLE wing window just to get those little shafts? Seems like that would be a part that could be removed and installed. If I have to swap the whole window, does this mean those shafts are welded in or something? I'm just wondering how mine disappeared like they did.

The shafts were probably pressed into place and crimped to hold them there . I presume that over time - opening and closing the vent , and I've seen people pull on the vent handle to close the door , would loosen the crimp and the shaft pops out . I'll see if I can get some pictures from my spare parts .

Here are some pictures and a sketch with approximate measurements . My sketch stopped at the bracket . Getting the pin out of the handle to take the pictures was fun :roll: . It looks much like I thought - the shaft had to be heated , inserted , then the end was distorted to spread it out to hold it in . Duplicating the shaft wouldn't be impossible , heating it not hard , distorting/spreading it :?: :!: :bang: would be the catch . It might be that at one time that sub-assembly was available at Ford but those would be really scarce now .

Instead of heating and distorting it,why not braze,silver solder,OR drill and tap the mounting area and secure it with some LocTite(R)?
