XD / XE / XF front doors - hinge mount template

Hello! I thought I would let everyone know, I have a template I made up for repairing the front doors on D/E/F falcons (you know, when the lower hinge area fatigues and the door almost falls off). I used it for left and right doors, basically you cut it out some metal (I used an old computer case lid), remove the paint around the edges of that part of the door, weld up the broken hinge area a bit, grind flat then weld the new piece over the top (all the way around). Worked well for me, although I didn't tidy up the welding too much (if the door is open and you look closely, you may notice). Everything lines up too!

Anyway, if anyone is interested I will investigate posting said template somewhere (can anyone suggest where?).

My adventures at wrecking yards yield mostly stuffed doors, so I cannot be the only one!

The Falcon nest is a good start to post. Make sure you've got a trustworthy picture provider...my choice has vapourised my pickies.


My XE got heavy duty doors the way you describe. I didn't fancy having Lamborghini Countach door openings on mine. The door handles, hinges and rust on the A-pillar seams are issues on the 1979 to 1997 X-bodies, but its easy enough to fix if you roll your sleaves up!
