Hi all,

One of my housemates has an unfinished xf wagon project where he was putting in a racing cam (unsure brand), strengthened springs and pushrods and some new lifters.

After some bolts didnt want to come out of the flywheel on the engine we had to give up, and so I now have the chance to buy an xf s-pac in good nick for a decent price (a different xf), so I plan to put the above gear, plus extractors, mags, new shocks maybe new carby etc into it.

I hear a new cam etc makes the 4.1 (carby) go pretty hard - but I hear some people who upgrade their cam wreck their dizzy gear if they don't get an aftermarket one. Has anyone had any trouble with this and do you think it is wise to buy one before I put the new cam etc in?

Also what sort of power figures would you expect this to put out after its done?

Thanks.

Buy the gear. There is no substitute EXCEPT when getting the engine's own original cam reground.

As to power increase - impossible to utter any approximation because there are no cam figures given. You need the Rollmaster or JP or Crow timing set also. If you uprate everything except the carb, it will run out of breath. That's not really detrimental to the motor as the A/F ratio is still OK.

Regards, Adam.

Thanks,

My housemate has no idea what brand cam it is, and it is currently in his XF so we can't look at any markings (came in an unmarked cardboard box). He spoke to I think one of the guys who runs a performance parts website and pretty much said he wanted a racing cam, springs, rods and lifters and the bloke gave him the parts to suit his engine. I remember it costing a few hundred for the springs alone
