Year code missing from shortblock casting?

Don't know what to make of this engine that came in a trade. Its a 5 freezeplug shortblock with no date code or FoMoCo casting on it.

-'63 head/intake and exhaust
-65 timing chain cover
-5 freezeplugs
-adjustable rockers
-Caterpillar valve cover breather and oil filter
-no luck with the tie-in yet

It does have stampings on the block.

Attached are a couple pics. Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge.

Hopefully the pictures work

Looks like you are missing the second digit in the casting code.
Do you have pictures of the back of the block where the bellhousing bolts onto?
Single low pair of bolt holes: 60-65 block; Two pair of bolt holes: 66+ block.

Classic Inlines tech section states that "Block codes were in use up to 1964, or there about, then Ford switched to small metal tags that were bolted to the engine block."

You could have a late 64 to early 65 200 engine. You could check the stroke by measuring the piston movement when you rotate the engine from TDC to BDC. 170 - 2.94", 200 - 3.126"; or measure the bore which would be easier: 170 - 3.50", 200 - 3.68".

Thanks for the reply. Somehow I missed the tag info, so much to read its hard to completely digest.

Now knowing that, its a different ballgame.

Here is a picture of the rear top bellhousing bolts in comparison to a '68 (I think) bellhousing bolts. The later is wider, the holes on the block line up with the same pattern as the original 144 that came out.

Thanks again for all the info you can throw at me.
