YF or RBS

HI all
I know this has been beat to death :deadhorse: Heres what I have right now on my 200 I have the YF on it.. its an 82 I think(wrong see below), 250 head rebuilt, 3 angle with the intakes cut back, Milled .60 for CR. adj. rockers and a 3 into 2 header. The carb is in need of rebuilt (again) (car surges and misses at low rpms..). would I be better off getting an RBS or get another YF. I would like performance/milage but more in the performance.

just went and looked the head is a D8 or D6 VE and Dam ford casting can't read the rest of it looks like 66-- - AA I was told it was a 250 head anyway...
Thanks
Tim

Howdy Tim:

More Questions- Which YF are you using? the reason I ask is that Ford used a YF on the last years of the 250 engines rated at 195 CFM- 200 YFs are rated at 187. How is your car running with the current YF?

The RBS is rated at 215 CFM which would give you a slight increase in power. In the later years, the YFs became a more complicated carb due to EPA goals and requirements. The RBS is about as simple as a Carter carb gets. Both use a vacuum assisted metering rod for main and power systems.

Which distributor are you using?

They are all the same after '70 or so anyhow AFAIK.

Are you talking about the heads being the same after '70? So are there any diffs between the 200 and the 250 after '70?

Hi dave
the YF carb is off a 72 mav. I don't remember if it was for a 200 or a 250 tho. I'm using the DSII out of a 82 Fairmont IIRC..
Heres all the numbers I could find on the YF carb I'm using...
6-2037
2336
71366 10

Thanks

Howdy Back Tim:

If the YF from the '72 Maverick is OEM then it is the earlier type for a 200. '72 Mavericks with a 250 would have had a RBS OEM. The numbers stamped ore cast into the YF are production codes and don't define application.

Either the RBS or the 1101 will work, offer better performance and tuned right, comparable economy. IF you are able to put it on tune it close and then leave it alone, I'd go with the RBS. IF you want to fine tune exactly, I'd recommend the 1101.

Ford_6- Yes, all head castings after C9DE with an "M" suffix are the same. The differences between the 200 and the 250 are the carb type and size. There were at least 5 engineering change suffix codes on 200 and 250 heads in 1969 so, it is safer to say "After 1970". That's not to say that there are no exceptions after 1970, but likely fewer.

One exception that comes to mind is the 170 head casting used in Mavericks- D0DZ.
