Troubleshooting an at-idle stumble.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot an on-idle stumble? The car runs and accelerates fine, but there is an odd off-rhythm popping as the car idles.

1968 Falcon 170, Carter YF, and points dizzy.

Thanks,

Dave

I had an intermittent missfire at idle when at full operating temp. Drove me nuts until I found the smog mechanic set the plugs at .035" vice .050".

Funny enough, I pulled the plugs today and cleaned and regapped them a little more narrow.
It was hard starting today in the cold weather and I thought that might help with the spark.
And it did in fact seem a bit more smooth. I might go with .045.

Were they crappy champion plugs? I broke three new ones already.

Hmm, it didn't occur to me to adjust the plug gaps. They were "pretty good" out of the box. I can't remember the brand, but I kept the boxes and will check.

Interestingly, I had changed the plugs and wires exactly because of this stumble.
